Central diabetes insipidus

This is a type of diabetes insipidus due to a lack of vasopressin (ADH) production in the brain

Vasopressin acts to increase the volume of blood (intravascularly), and decrease the volume of urine produced

The major symptoms of include urinating (polyuria, nocturia), and polydipsia

The only symptom that central diabetes insipidus has in common with diabetes mellitus is polyuria

Diagnosis is by water deprivation test showing failure to maximally concentrate urine
